An update from our Assistant Manager

Tomorrow we travel to New Victoria Park for an important Premier League game against Newtongrange Star.  Our third away match in a week,  following two defeats to Dundonald and Penicuik.

The game up at Dundonald was played in very blustery conditions. We played into the strong wind and up the slope in the first half and I felt that we dealt with the conditions really well,  as we saw ourselves 2-1 up leading into half time, however poor marking just on the stroke of half time, saw us level at 2-2.

At half time I don’t think anyone at the game would have predicted how the second half performance panned out. A really slack and lacklustre display saw Dundonald run out as 6-3 winners. Easily the worst 45 mins of our season.

We didn’t have too long to dwell on the result as we faced the difficult task of playing league leaders Penicuik on Tuesday.  A really great fixture to look forward to, although we knew it would be a difficult game. The game didn’t quite go to plan as we got off to a horrendous start to go 1-0 down in just under 15 seconds.

It’s fair to say after Saturday it could have been easy for the lads to feel sorry for themselves but they didn’t,  and for the next 65/70 mins they played really well and deservedly drew level before half time.

The second goal seemed to knock the stuffing from us a bit,  but they can be proud of the reaction and the performance in that 60min period against a really good side.  A lot of positives to take,  and hopefully we can take them into an important game against Newtongrange Star.

The Star have been on a good run recently and have given themselves a massive chance of getting out of the relegation zone.  It’s such an important game tomorrow to stop a bit of rut in results.

Training went well on Thursday,  and we look to have a full squad to choose from. We have had great support at the last few away games, particularly at Penicuik and hopefully we will see many of you at Newtongrange,  and you will see the boys get three valuable league points to kick start the season again.

All the best

Dunny
