Smudger extends his contract
Going into this season I was open minded about this being my last and possibly retiring at the end of the season but I got a good preseason under me. I feel as fit as I have for a long time and still feel I can offer something, that coupled with my desire to be part of this club and help it progress.
I thought it was too soon to be considering retiring, so after speaking to the Gaffer and Dunny, thankfully they wanted me to stay and we got the extension sorted.
I enjoy playing for this club massively. It’s a proper club from top to bottom, obviously relegation was a sore one to take last year but there is a massive drive personally and with the rest of the boys to have a successful season and get us back into the premier league.
The club has also been great with me allowing me to help coach with the Under 20’s which I have really been enjoying. I have ambitions of being a manager one day myself and I feel helping out with the 20’s will stand me in good stead for the future. Stuart, Jack, Josh and Andrew have been very welcoming and I’m looking forward to working with them throughout the season.
I also enjoy working with the Gaffer, Dunny, Smally,Jinky, Eck, and Susan. They are good people and their hard work and professional manner is another reason that makes Dunbar a great place to play football. Them along with the volunteers, kitmen James and Al, also the committee, like I say make this club a proper club and myself and the boys are so grateful for all that they do.
Obviously tomorrow is the first round of the Scottish Cup which is always a special occasion for both the players and supporters of the club. Last season the crowds were big and the support was great. Thankfully we gave them something to be happy about with a few wins. Hopefully we can do that tomorrow and progress further in the competition.
Thank you to everybody for your continued support.
