An update from our Manager

It’s been a good start to our league campaign,  and I’m slightly disappointed we now have a fortnight break to play in cup competitions. I’d prefer to keep playing league matches and picking up where we have the momentum.

We have been low on numbers with the suspensions prior to yesterday but are still dealing with holidays and injuries. Hopefully we will know the full extent of Evan Fleming’s injury in the next 2 weeks and we will know what his likely recovery time will be.

Liam Gregory and Thommo could be back fit fairly soon,  plus the addition of Jonny Grotlin will provide a real competition for places within the squad which is required if we want to achieve the goals we have set ourselves. Jonny is a direct, pacy attacker who knows where the goals are, having scored 19 last term for Preston and scoring with his first touch of the ball on his debut yesterday.

Massive credit goes to our Club Secretary, Pam Munro who worked her magic to get Jonny’s registration though at 1pm on Saturday afternoon in time for the team lines to be submitted at 1:30pm.

The thing I’m most pleased about just now is the fact we are looking stronger defensively. Sean Brennan has made a great start to the season making vital saves and keeping 2 clean sheets. It’s no secret that it was a massive issue last season and the outfield players can take pride in that also as we are yet to concede a good from open play.

A special mention to Johnny Edmond who has made a big impact since recovering from his injury. Having been out for 5 months, working hard in the gym, he’s back scoring goals and  was awarded the man of the match award in Saturday’s win over Burntisland Shipyard.

Finally it would be great to see a good DUFC travelling support cheer on the lads for this Saturday’s South Challenge Cup first round challenge against Tweedmouth Rangers at Old Shielfield Park.

All the best
