An update from our Dunbar United U20's Manager Stuart Allan

Everything is taking shape nicely as we start pre-season training tomorrow evening. Our season only finished on the 11th of June but it feels like forever!

I’m pleased to say Jack Inglis, Josh Stevenson and my old man, Andrew Allan, will make up the U20’s coaching team for now. This provides continuity to what the majority of our squad had last season, which is extremely pleasing.

I’m delighted to say Darren Smith will also be part of our coaching team this season. Darren does everything to the highest standard and will be a fantastic influence. His career speaks for itself, but I’m really grateful he wants to be involved.

Darren’s playing career will obviously still take priority for him. But it’s absolutely priceless to have someone like Darren, to lean on and give his insight. Our U20’s players should take every opportunity to pick his brain and ask questions, that’s how you learn.

On Thursday, we were pleased to learn who we will face this season. We have been named in Conference C, with well established sides such as Penicuik Athletic, Musselburgh Athletic and Leith Athletic. All 3 finished well in their respective conferences last year.

We aren’t the only new side in Conference C – five other clubs are new to U20’s. There aren’t any easy fixtures, but we are all relishing the challenge. I’m delighted with my squad of players and confident we can give an excellent account of ourselves this year.

Pre-season is shaping up well. We have 6 friendlies organised against fellow U20’s sides. We take on Tranent Juniors, Newtongrange Star, Edinburgh South, Dalkeith Thistle, Whitehill Welfare and Tynecastle.

All 6 games will provide an excellent test. 5 out of the 6 teams had U20’s teams last year. The purpose of pre-season is to obviously get fit. But importantly, get back into good habits again, gaining that sharpness for the big kick off on the 12th of August.

Since my last update, 70% of my squad have been sponsored, in just two weeks. Huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored one of my players – the response has been truly incredible. We are all extremely grateful for your support.

It’s a hugely exciting time to be part of this football club. The hard work that continues to go on behind the scenes is honestly remarkable. If you can, please come and give your backing to the lads in the 1st team and in the U20’s this season.

All the best

Stuart Allan
